What Vaccines Are Required for Dogs and Cats in Phoenix, AZ?

In Phoenix and Maricopa County, rabies vaccination is legally required for all dogs 12 weeks of age and older. At SNiP Vet, we also recommend:

  • Core dog vaccines: Rabies, Distemper/Parvo (DAPP), Bordetella
  • Core cat vaccines: Rabies, FVRCP, FeLV (with prior testing)

Our veterinary team can help you determine exactly which animal vaccines your pet needs based on age, health, and risk factors.

How Often Should I Vaccinate My Dog or Cat in Phoenix?

The recommended vaccination schedule for pets is:

  • Puppies and kittens: Begin at 7–8 weeks, with booster shots every 3–4 weeks until at least 16 weeks old
  • Rabies: First dose between 12–16 weeks, booster after 1 year, then every 3 years
  • Adult pets: Regular boosters typically every 1–3 years, depending on the vaccine and lifestyle

Our team will tailor a plan for your pet during your visit.

Can I Walk In for Pet Vaccines in Phoenix, or Do I Need an Appointment?

Appointments are required to ensure a smooth and timely experience. However, same-day appointments may be available by calling ahead, as the schedule allows.

When Should My Puppy or Kitten Get Their First Vaccinations?

To provide full immunity, young pets should begin their puppy shots or kitten vaccines between 7 and 8 weeks of age. We recommend:

  • First vaccines: 7–8 weeks old
  • Boosters: Every 3–4 weeks until 16 weeks
  • Rabies: 12–16 weeks

Our staff will guide you through your pet’s full immunization schedule.

Is Microchipping Required by Law in Phoenix, AZ?

While microchipping is not currently required by law, it’s highly recommended. Most shelters and veterinary clinics scan for microchips immediately when a stray pet is brought in.

Adding a microchip for your dog or cat is one of the most reliable ways to reunite with them if they go missing.

Can I Update My Pet’s Microchip Information Online If I Live in Phoenix?

Yes. After your visit, you’ll receive instructions to log into your pet’s microchip account and keep your contact information up to date.
Whether you move or change phone numbers, it’s simple to update your details anytime online.

What Should I Do After Microchipping My Pet in Phoenix?

After your pet is microchipped:

  • SNiP Vet will automatically register your pet’s microchip with the information you provide.
  • Keep your contact info current
  • Ask our team for help if you need assistance with registration

Our staff is happy to walk you through the process during your visit.

How Do I Know If My Pet’s Microchip Is Working?

The easiest way to check if your pet’s microchip is functioning is to ask your veterinarian or local shelter to scan your pet using a microchip reader. At SNiP Vet, we’re happy to perform this quick scan during your pet’s visit.

A working chip will immediately show your pet’s unique ID number on the scanner. If the chip can’t be detected, we may recommend replacing it to ensure your pet can be safely identified in the future. Regular scans are a good way to verify that your microchip for dogs or cats is active and properly positioned.
